Coachbuilt cars with everything but the base silhouette and chassis chosen by the customer are one of the great pillars of Mulliner’s new vision announced in 2020.
The first stage was the Bacalar unveiled at last year’s Monterey, which is currently being delivered to new owners. The creation of this model proved Mulliner’s skills and the efficiency of latest technology. But the Batur debuted at Monterey this August shows that Mulliner has moved on to the next stage.

As Bentley announced, the Batur carries multiple meanings. First of all, the titanium parts, compound natural fibre, 3D printed 18-karat gold parts with limitless options, as well as the Scottish leather selected by the customer, the Italian tanned leather and the suede-like dinamica were all designed with SDGs in mind, keeping the carbon emissions low. These are not just 18 cars, they are a revolution and should be praised as the beginning of a future challenge.

The 6.0 Litre W12 engine inside the Batur is a famous unit that symbolises the new Bentley that started in 2002. And the Batur plays the role of a 'flower road’ framing the perfect exit for the W12. The W12 is assembled entirely by hand and for the past 20 years, it has evolved to possess a power of 740PS. But for the future of our planet, Bentley has decided to switch to electric vehicles. The first stage is set for 2025, which means the end for this famous unit. And Bentley brought the Batur as its final grand stage.

The Batur also acts as an indicator of the future. This shows in the design technique. Bentley models that came before respected tradition and put emphasis on established details that are immediately recognisable as Bentley. The design director of the Batur, Andreas Mindt and his team evaluated their work as ‘an exciting challenge that brings a breath of fresh air to established rules.’ The Batur’s silhouette described ‘a beast hunting for its prey’ is a design different from the existing Bentley lineup. But when you look at it again with a cool head, the towering front grills that symbolise Bentley create a strong sense of presence. The two large headlights, one on each side follow in the Bacalar’s vein. In other words, the Batur has classic Bentley details but the design as a whole is entirely new. More importantly, Batur’s design teases the first BEV design to be released in 2025. In other words, it is an epoch-making model that marks the milestone between Bentley until today and Bentley in the next 100 years.
