The Art and Craft of Bentley’s ‘Flying B’

The ‘Flying B’ bonnet mascot has been the ultimate symbol of Bentley design and craft. The new design, the sixth iteration, was chosen from an in-house design shortlist.

The Bentley ‘Flying B’ bonnet mascots have been offered since the mid-1920s. Iterations of the design were offered in modified form for Bentley models up to the 1970s, at which point pedestrian protection legislation banned prominent solid bonnet ornaments and they were discontinued. Then, in 2006, a revised design of the ‘Flying B’ bonnet mascot was introduced, with a new retractable mechanism, for the Bentley Azure and Brooklands models. The mascot is optionally available across the Flying Spur range, but 97 per cent of all Flying Spur orders include a ‘Flying B’.
The latest model is Bentley's first ever electronically controlled bonnet mascot – when the owner approaches, the Bentley name badge above the grille slides out of view and a beautiful 'Flying B' with a combination of crystal acrylic wings and LEDs rises to take its place.
